“That one was too easy, father. Another one, another one, please–!”

“Well…alright then, Miles, how about this…you have a special type of string that takes exactly one hour to burn. However, they burn at a non-uniform rate, and different parts of the string take longer than other parts to burn. How would you measure 45 minutes with two of such string?”

He saw his son’s brow furrow in contemplation, fingers wrapped around his chin just like he would do over his case files. The father smiled, bringing the mug to his lips.

“…E-eureka!” The son jumped from his chair, a confident hand raised. “Light the first on both ends, the second only on one…then, when the first has finished burning, light the other end on the second one! I…got it. I got it, father!”

“You always do, son. You always do,” he laughed warmly and with pride. “Now then, how about 15 minutes and with only one of such string?”

“Why, father, it’s simple logic! First–”

I just like to imagine the Edgeworths having happy fun fun riddles and logic puzzles night every once in a while. Real talk though, is the riddle too hard for a 9 year old?? idk my dudes

Reading about abusive men and the way they think. Very unsettling and an incredible book so far. Here are my very professional notes.

what book is this?

This is from “Why Does He DO That” by Lundy Bancroft.

I’m so glad I’m seeing more and more Lundy Bancroft quotes on my dash because this book CHANGES THE LIVES OF ABUSE VICTIMS.

The programs run for rehabilitating abusive men through the courts? Bancroft DESIGNED THEM. His programs are replicated ALL OVER THE WORLD.
He literally wrote THE book on abuser rehabilitation.

Here’s a link to a pdf copy. If you haven’t read this book yet, read this book.

Can we talk about how it seems like the entirety of the book is online on PDF, this making it accessible to anyone with an internet connection?

That is how we stop abuse.

We enable everyone to know what it looks like, so that when it happens, they can shut it down.

Arm yrself with knowledge!

Changed my life, would reccomend.

Reblogging for the PDF link.

Always reblogging because this isn’t just a partner abuse thing, this is a common abuse tactic PERIOD: Parents, siblings, bosses, general assholes, etc…

Hello! A lot of you have been asking me where and how I’ve learn multiple languages and well, after a few hours of digging through my browser history and bookmarks, I was able to collect all of these resources. I have personally used all of these, so I can assure you they are useful! If there is something wrong with a website or a link, please let me know. Also, if you have any questions or if you want a learning buddy, my ask box is open. (I speak English and Spanish. I’m learning Korean, German, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, Italian, and Esperanto)

Note: Learning a new language requires a lot of dedication, more than you actually think! Especially if you’re learning multiple languages at the same time. It isn’t impossible, but it will take time. And by time I mean months and/or years! So please, be patient. Take your time. Don’t rush. Keep in mind that you will mess up and that’s okay. Practice as much as you can. Practice out loud. Talk to yourself if you can. It doesn’t matter if people think you’re crazy. They won’t be thinking the same when you become a polyglot, so don’t mind them. This is for you and your future.

humansofnewyork:

Most of the refugee families that we profiled this month have made their way to America. And as the initial excitement fades, they are faced with the stark reality of starting from zero in a new land. Being an immigrant is very difficult. Being a refugee is even worse. Most of them lost everything in the war. And because they were kind enough to share their stories with us, I thought that we could help carry a bit of their load this Christmas.

Money we raise over the next 48 hours will be divided evenly among the families that we profiled, including Aya’s. Let’s use this Christmas to give back to the refugees who so openly shared their painful stories with us. Even if we could provide a few thousand dollars to each family—that money will stretch a long way.

This Christmas, consider helping us give the gift of a fresh start:

the weirdest shit i have ever experienced as a swede is when around the mid 2000’s it became popular in sweden for teenage boys to wear rubber bands around their legs on top of their jeans. the more rubber bands you had and variety in colors the more alpha you became to the other teenage boys
